A Home From Home

There is no better place for sleeping than in one's own bed. Therefore it is advised for most travellers to stay where they are.

Our guesthouse, which came into being from the "Seamen's Mission," is not the usual kind of hotel. Comprising only six rooms in an old canal house, it is almost like a large apartment dwelling. It includes a day room with sitting area and a pantry for quick self-service.

Employees quickly get to know the guests and answer questions and requests with pleasure.

Sea Sunday 2017

"My work has no worth to you"

The German Protestant Church and the German Seaman's Mission invite you to the Sea Sunday on 19 March 2017, beginning: 10:30 am.

In the price of each item we buy, there is a tiny fraction of the work that people at sea can afford for us all. There are many sailors worldwide, nowadays they come from low-cost countries. They live a special life on board: Separated from the family, scrambled to a crew, monthly on the way.

This worship service is to draw attention to those who keep our world economy to faint.

Homily: Pastor Heike Proske (General Secretary of the DSM e.V.)
Liturgy: Rev. Janina Glienicke, Dr. Viola Heutger
With the shantymen "De Rotterdamse Scheepskakkerlakken".

Location: Viottastraat 44, Amsterdam

New toilet on the ground floor

It was planned for a long time. When there was the financing there was no holding. We have renovated the toilet on the ground floor from scratch. Nothing has remained as it was. The intermediate door disappeared, the old tiles disappeared. Almost seven weeks the reconstruction lasted: old walls often contain unknown challenges to the craftsmen. So here too. The wall to the office had to be stabilized again. And instead of only dry construction, walls had to dry out before the next trades could take place.

Now behind the sliding door conceals a room with a new sink and toilet. For a nice decoration was still enough money.
